Thanksgiving Day,2008. by bIG bLOGGER on 26 November 2008 5:18pm

I believe that tomorrow,November 27th, is Thanksgiving Day across America, celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November every year.

Q: Will any of you US guys be celebrating, and if so how,and do you know why you celebrate it??

To view the singing Turkey (alias/Gloria Gaynor),go to log on to:

Thank you for thinking of us, bLogger! I personally think it's a bogus holiday, so I'll leave it to the people who have the spirit to explain it. I just want to order a pizza and watch the game!...

well, bIG, we will be celebrating quietly with a couple of friends. I'll be making a turkey dinner. We'll be watching the National Dog Show to cheer on the Brittanys. Thanksgiving's roots go back to the days of the Pilgrims when they joined the First People in a harvest festival and was commemorated as such until it became a national holiday during the Depression, I think.
Personally, I believe every day is a good day to practice gratitude. However, the local natural poultry farm only has turkeys once a year (chickens the rest of the time), so we are getting our turkey on!

T-Day is nice because it's our least commercialable holiday. If you're lucky, you'll celebrate by eating delicious food, and enjoying people's company. (There are lots of variations, though.) I love my family, but my Happiest Thanksgivings have been with friends - families often have too much infighting, stress, and drama for their own good. I have always tried to help my family be happier, but as Shakespeare knew, drama dies hard :)

But yes, I have had some beautiful, delicious Thanksgivings with warm fireplaces and conversation. And when we did have Turkey, everyone would get very sleepy, and end up laying around the fireplace, after a post-meal stroll.

Of course we celebrate Thanksgiving! I am very surprised Cori doesn't, shocked, in fact. I never heard of anyone who isn't American, born or naturalized, who doesn't. Maybe I've been living in a cave for the last gazilion years.

It really is a heartwarming time for family and friends. It kicks off the entire holiday season too, but it's mainly to show gratitude for your blessings and to share good fortune and food with others.
A holiday is what one makes of it. Life is like that too, to a certain extent. One can find and make joy for themselves and others or be cynical. it's what you put into it as to what you get in return. Sounds a bit cliche, but it's true.

Here's a quote for Thanksgiving:

"Love is an act of endless forgiveness, a tender look which becomes a habit."

The day is here! Extending warm wishes for a Happy Thanksgiving to all fellow Americans. Enjoy your day however you wish, and rememeber to give thanks for whatever has made you happy throughout your year. Love one another.

Anybody want to break a wish bone with me?

Oh, and now for the coin toss! : )
