Just saw that Dave Dee died this morning. The band wasn't a favourite of mine but I do smile when I remember the whip cracking in Xanadu. Apparently he did a lot of charity work and was a magistrate. Sad.

I used to buy their records and was chuffed when we analysed Xanadu in Music at school!!

Sad - I don't suppose he was THAT old either. In his 60s perhaps?

:(

I'm sorry to hear this News.

Dave Dee(real name:David Harman) died yesterday evening in Kingston Hospital,Surrey, after a 3-year battle with cancer. He was only 67,and was the lead vocalist on his group's 1968 hit "The Legend Of Xanadu" .
I believe he is survived by his bandmates,Beaky,Dozy,Mick and Tich.

Many moons ago, I represented London in "The 5 o'clock club" IQ competition. I reached the semi finals and Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Titch were the guest band on one of the shows. They were lovely to all the contestants and sat with us all in the canteen. I had almost forgotten that but my memory was jogged when I was looking at an old photo album. It was a long time ago (43 years).

I could have got to the final Anne but on the semi final day the Walker Brothers were in the RSG studio which was next door and I spent the entire day in a stupor. I was in heaven but my brain was somewhere else. : ). I loved Scott Walker.

The WALKER Bros? I would have been in a stupour too, Linz!! I loved Scott too but I also liked John.

I remember being on hols in Gt Yarmouth (where we always went - I loved it!) and the Walkers were due to appear the day we were leaving!!! :( I begged my parents to let me and my friend (we used to go on hols together - first with my folks and then with hers) to stay over but they wouldn't let us. I think we were about 13!! It seemed the end of the world and I sobbed all the way home - that is when I wasn't sucking my giant pink candy dummy!!
