It has been announced that Teddy Kennedy is to be given an honorary knighthood. I am pleased for him.

....by Britain, presumably. (they don't give 'knighthoods' in the US,do they?)

Something to do with the Anglo-Irish connection and Senator Kennedy having had some influence in forging the 1998 'Good Friday' Peace Accord.

Apparently he won't be allowed to call himself "Sir Ted",don't know why really, but maybe because we not long ago had a "Sir Ted" in Sir Edward Heath.

Obama's made a lot of changes, but we still don't give knighthoods.

Congrats, Teddy!

Why would he accept such an 'honour' ?

I think I'm the only person left in the world who remembers that Edward Kennedy killed a girl in a drunk driving accident. Left her in a sinking car, saved his own ass, made no attempt to get help for her. Went home and the Kennedys called their attorneys to see how they should go about telling the authorities in a way that would do the least damage to his political future.

I don't know how many other people, having done anything of the sort, would be allowed to go on living their lives as free men (women), in prosperity. I guess he's passed some good legislation so it's all okay.

Yes Cori, I remember Chappaquiddick. ( spelling ? )
He's had to live with that all his life since then but Mary JO ( ? ) has'nt had that privilege.

I've never forgotten that, Cori. This man is so revered by his cronies and others that it makes me ill. He and his brother JFK, were slime as far as women go, and Bobby was no angel either. But murder? OMG.

Calm down,peripateticallY!!
Edward Kennedy was charged on 25 July,1969,with leaving the scene of an accident, and was given a 2-month suspended jail sentence. He said afterwards his own behaviour had been 'indefensible' but denied driving under the influence of alcohol,or that there had been any improper behaviour with Mary Jo.
So,even so,he got off rather lightly, considering that Mary Jo Kopechne drowned.
It's often overlooked that Edward Kennedy was leaving a party for 'Boiler Room girls',a group of young women who had worked on Bobby's presidential campaign the previous year and was driving a 1967 Oldsmobile Delmont '88.
