Any suggestions about a next Michael "Theme Travel"? by t_t on 14 May 2003 7:32pm

All of us, or at least most of us, are acquainted with Michael Palin's work. We have been following (mentaly and some of us even veritably) his steps throughout the world in amazing "theme tavels", such as "Around the World in 80 Days". Michael, as a modern Fogg, have guided us to all the exotic places that made Fogg a real hero rather than a fictional figure.
So I've been thinking...
Wouldn't it be a great idea if Michael could reincarnate into other heroes that travelled sometime in history and actually made a difference for all us common mortals?
Personally, I'd love to see him someday following the steps of Alexander the Great from Greece all the way to India, passing from places like Syria, Afganistan, places we know very little about and that are yet so very current nowadays...
I'd love to see what you have to propose...
Love to all
Tammy

Great idea, especially re. Al the Great. (She said, sending safety-oriented blessings towards all who are now or may one day be in such places.)

Let's see...

I had an idea flash in my head (as a result of watching "Race: the Power of an Illusion" on U.S. PBS) of tracing the path(s) and any archeological sites regarding the "second" human migration out of Africa about 100,000 years ago, when racial characteristics first started to show up. (Of course, this would take Himself all over the world (again), but what else is new. Or, maybe we could hoodwink Stephen Jay Gould into the project.)

Trace the Mongol invasion(s) through China?

Follow the route of old U.S. Route 40 from San Francisco back to Chicago? (No, wait. That's me, next year.)

And, here's an interesting guy (Francis Rawdon Chesney) who navigated the Tigris & Euphrates:

OK, I'm out of ideas.

I remember watching a series with someone who had followed in the footsteps of Alexander, the whole way. So if Palin were to do it, it would no longer be original...

How about a series called "The Sun Never Sets on Michael Palin"? He could undertake another circumnavigation, stopping only at former British possessions, seeking out the remaining vestiges of the empire’s reach.
