Camels. by tucsonmike on 29 July 2009 2:04pm

I have been reading Frank McLynn's book about African exploration called Hearts of Darkness.
One chapter explains the use of different animals in different parts of Africa. In North Africa, it's camels.

One thing you have to be careful of is the camels not having water for several days, hitting an oasis, drinking too much water at one time, eating dates from the palm tress, and what do you have?

A DRUNKEN CAMEL!!

Camels are bad enough in the best of times. Can you imagine the idea of a camel as a mean drunk?

Camels are scarey! One tried to bite my Jess when she was little. Goats are also scarey, I just can't trust an animal that has rectanglar shaped pupils.

Sorry, mike,I don't have any problem with camels filling up their tanks with water after a good long trek in the desert.

..Of course if a camel went into a bar in Saudi Arabia wearing a kilt and proceeded to get itself drunk on whisky, well I WOULD have a problem with that and moreover,it is not sanctioned under sharia law. :)

I wonder if there are any camels in Paris?

Re: Camels. by bIG bLOGGER on 29 July 2009 2:46pm

There are probably one or two, owned by ex-French Foreign Legionnaires, who rode them in the Sahara and got rather attached to them.

Alternatively,Paris Hilton has somewhat bizarrely recently admitted to having a passion for riding camels. Would you prefer to see Paris on a camel, rather than a camel in Paris??

The camel in the photo looks terrified!--Perhaps he's saying: "Bugger,I only just got away from Neverland, and now THIS!!"
