The Chatter Box : Blathering On
KEITH FLOYD by bIG bLOGGER on 16 September 2009 3:01pm
The fore-runner to today's plethora of celebrity chefs, who made cooking both fun to do and to watch on TV,and also made 'Travel' cooking in foreign countries with foreign ingredients popular--KEITH FLOYD--has died of a heart attack in Dorset aged 65.

It was eerily odd that the night this sad news was announced,CHANNEL4 TV had only just finished screening a Documentary "KEITH meets KEITH"--obviously filmed a few months earlier, where Keith Allen [Dad of singer LILY ALLEN] made an odyssey to Provence in South France to engage Floyd in conversation about his life and his art. A lot of the programme was slightly uncomfortable to watch because Floyd was hobbling about his house on a stick and was very grumpy to everyone [except his labrador dog]...but then if he had just been told he had colon cancer,I suppose he had good reason to be grumpy.

I liked watching his TV programmes for his sheer ebullience on screen and his rebel-schoolboy-like character which was a whole world away from the terminally-dull presentation style of cookery expert Delia Smith.

SO: RIP,Keith, you old curmudgeonly rascal and gastronome, you can go cook for the angels now.

I loved the way he took a slurp of the local wine anytime he was demonstrating how to make a particular dish.
