Libya by ehpolin on 20 May 2003 4:30am

I remember when I was stationed at Wheelus AB Libya in 1965-66. I was in addition to my regular job in the United States Air Force a tour guide conducting tours of Sabratha, Leptis Magna, and the City of Tripoli. When I was there the ampitheater in Sabratha was used frequently. Both the Italian population and the Moslem population shared the use of this magnificent ampitheater. Tarabulus El Garb (Tripoli of the West) was a huge city. We toured the American Cemetary, The castle in Tripoli, the shuks, and other interesting places. I also visited the island of Jerba where it is said that it is the second oldest continuing existance of jewish settlement in the world. I am wondering if anyone else has similar experiences.

No, Libya is firmly on my wish list of places to visit, but haven't got around to it yet. It's very expensive and also it takes a long time to get a visa. Would simply love to see the Roman ruins at Leptis Magna. God willing, I'll get there one day.
