Any other ladies do solo traveling? by mrsteabag on 18 January 2010 1:08am

Just wondering. On my next trip, I want to go to Paris or England (London and Jane Austen sites) solo. (Mr. Teabag and I are scary compatible at home, but we just can't travel together). I don't want to go with a group. What advice do you have?

You will be OK on your own. It's quite easy getting around London once you know the underground and bus routes, the same for Paris.

Just bring travel information on both countries, maps of the city you are visiting, must-see places to visit, etc. etc.

Of course, if you come to London, there are several of us who can help. If you need any info on London and Jane Austen sites, let me know.

It's always wise, especially for women, to check in with their embassy or consulate when traveling alone. And leave details behind with family. We always do the latter even though we are not traveling by ourselves. The embassy should be able to give you some handy information about unsafe areas of the city or region and so forth.

I've been all over the place by myself, including the UK and parts of Asia. I started doing this when I was about 20, really enjoyed the freedom. Cos I ain't got any now!!!!

Not only me. I know one lady. She travels by bicycle. Now she is preparing to "Full Circle". It will take, according to calculations, for two years. She is 68 years old. Her name is Julia Michailiuk.

Today I`m testing the bike. It took me 4 hours for 50 km. Weak!
