I know it's a bit early yet... by Spursfan on 5 November 2010 6:50pm

...but I was just reminiscing about what used to happen at Xmas in the town we lived in when our two kids were little.

They were both born when we lived in the small town of Stone, in Staffordshire - in fact we lived there nearly 19 years.

When they were still young enough to believe in Santa (which I still do, of course), by coincidence the Rotary Club (or the Lions I can't remember) used to drive Santa through the streets of Stone on one of the evenings leading up to ChrIstmas!

It was FABULOUS!! Santa would be in his sleigh, pulled by another vehicle, and it would be all lit up and beautifully decorated, and carols would be blasting out.

You could hear the sleigh long before it arrived at the part of Stone we lived in, (it only travelled very slowly) and we'd ALL get excited!! Then as the sleigh turned into our road we would open the frontdoor and go outside, as did everyone else. Genevieve and Simon would be in their pyjamas and dressing gowns, and their eyes would be as wide as saucers.

Santa didn't give out presents (as a matter of fact they were collecting for charity) - but he'd wave to the kids and perhaps speak to them and it was just LOVELY.

This went on for a few years, and we always looked forward to it, but then it stopped. By that time Genevieve and Simon had stopped believing (pah!!) so they were not bothered that much, but Zak and I missed it!!

:)

The exact same thing that you described happens in our estate when the Round Table ( twats ) comes a-begging.
I find it a noisy pain in the arse.

I know Sue ! They do put on a bit of a show but they're so flaming noisy !

I told my girls that when the ice-cream van played his jingles, he was telling you that he'd ran out of ice-cream. :)

Bah humbug, Johnny? ! ;)

I look back on it with nostalgia so would love to see it again.

For all I know they may have started it up again (we moved 20 years ago next February).
