Very succinct language.

Speaking of which, does anyone here know what the German word "Gnampf" means, please? It keeps popping up on my Tolle Sachen vids.

Re: Great German word by Ken Dunn on 20 April 2012 6:16am

There's no translation for gnamph in Google so I suspect it is a word like hmmph in English.

Re: Great German word by ev on 20 April 2012 11:06am

Gnampf is some silly made up word, with no specific meaning.

Sometimes words like that gather some meaning and enter into common usage, for example zing in English. Or many others that Palinites could think of.

I typed 'gnampf' into Babylon 9, the translator I use sometimes if I don't know a Turkish word, and it came up with........................:

'Gnampf'

:D

Thanks for that. According to a German lady I met, the character of Bernd Das Brot (one of the characters in Tolle Sachen)usually just waffles nonsense, so it makes sense that Gnampf would not not mean anything sensible.

Can anyone translate this Scottish word, as it baffles me. Nyaff.

Re: Great German word by Ken Dunn on 23 April 2012 10:01pm

My wife might call you a nyaff at times jbg! Can you work out the translation from the context of the word in that sentence?!
