Fact stranger than fiction by Loretto on 25 May 2012 12:26pm

In the news over here today was the story of a former football star with a promising NFL career. He was accused of raping a girl on school property, told to accept a plea bargain by his lawyer, and he did 10 years in prison.

He was let out on parole, considered to be a convicted felon he had to wear an ankle monitor at all times.

Not long after being released on parole he was contacted on Facebook by his accuser. They arranged to meet. He hired a private eye to tape their conversation. In that meeting she admitted that she made up the whole story! He never raped her.

Her motive to lie for 10 years? The school gave her family 1.5 million dollars because of Rhe alleged rape. Her family needed the money she said. Her contact message to the man she accused if rape, "Let bygones be bygones."

His name is now cleared but I wonder will she pay back the money and give up 10 years of her life. Some people are just plain evil.

That is terrible, Loretto!! His name may be cleared but he has lost 10 years of his life (and a promising career)!! And there will always be people who say where there's smoke there's fire, so he'll have to put up with THAT (probably) for the rest of his life.

And what if rape had been a capital offence and it was in a state that still had the death penalty? This is one of the reasons I am so anti-death penalty.

And lastly (sorry - 2 paras beginning with 'And'!!), this is the sort of case that make people suspicious about genuine rape cases.

Pah!!

I hope she is being either sued or prosecuted?

How awful for that poor man! I wonder if she felt any guilt at all.

What goes around, comes around.

Agreed Anne and Sue. I will look for the NBC Today show interview with him; he was polite and arrticulate, and forgiving! He has moved on he said.

Now what kind of an ego-maniac was she to think that after stealing ten years of his life, muddying his good name and stealing 1.5 mil from tax payers that she was going to make things alright by stating "Let bygones be bygones," on a Facebook message.

I mean she swaggered into the meeting all doodied-up with a horsefeeder of a leather bag hanging from her shoulder. What an arse!!!!

Hopefully this link will work...

"Don't hold back Loretto! tell us how ya really feel about this."

I think I am so upset about this because I keep thinking, what if this were my son?

So much for the childish fantasies of 'guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt' and 'solemnly swear to tell the truth...'

Hearing of this type of action can make it difficult for the skeptic to support our sleazy society.

I pasted the link and it worked for me. A well spoken young man. With his attitude and approach to such a difficulty, he is upward bound. Go buddy go.

Surely the US euivalent of the Crown Prosecution Service will be prosecuting her for wasting police time; perjury, etc etc (or the US equiv)???

She needs a good slap!! (and I'm only HALF joking)

1.5 million dollars for her telling a lie, and 10 years in prison for him for taking his lawyer's advice.

I really hope they do imprison her for perjury.

She needs a good slap from everyone reading the story...AND we'd all get to sue her because we have a sore hand!

Perjury for sure. And enslave her to get the 1.5M back in services rendered.

A friend on facebook made another valid point about Juaneta Gibson, she is making it difficult for legit rape victims to come forward. Good point.
