Ditto on the Lord of the Rings/New Zealand thing for me too! The scenery and landscapes are amazing. Simply breath taking!

Wim Wenders' "Wings of Desire" and "Faraway, So Close!" were the inspiration fo me to go to Berlin.

Mine was very schmaltzy, but I'll still tell (sappy).

The movie "Out of Africa" (and subsequently the memoirs and letters of Karen Blixen) got me to go on a two week mini-bus tour in Kenya - with a one week layover in Denmark so I could visit her family estate in Rungstedlund first. I actually carried a film tin of dirt from there to a certain obelisk in the Ngong Hills. My daughter, 14 at the time, accompanied me. I'd been infatuated with the film and Karen's real biography for a couple of years.

Regardless of the reason for my journey, after my first trip off the North American continent - over the pond to Europe and especially to Africa - the travel bug bit me hard and has never let go.

Funnily enough, that film was showed last Sunday(as I recall), on a Finnish channel. I'd seen it before, but seeing it again reminded me of palinstravels.co.uk, and I came here and registered because of that..
And had I the money to travel when I'm inspired to do it, I would hardly see my home.

I meant Out of Africa, of course. Being a bit hasty, I am.

'Twister' makes me want to go and do a bit of storm chasing in the US! i think that would be fanbloodytastic, i can't think of a more exciting thing to do!

One of my all-time favourite movies is 'Local Hero'. (If you have never seen it, see it!) As a child and teenager we always spent family holidays in Scotland. One year I persuaded my parents to make a small detour so we could visit Pennan, the small village which doubled as the fictional Furness in the film. We didn't stay very long - there's not much to see as it's such a tiny place - but I was glad we made the trip and have fond memories of my visit every time I watch the movie.
