The Chatter Box : Blathering On
A Palinites Dream Come True... by Rusted on 22 November 2002 6:54am
Okay, well, no, I'm not talking about meeting Michael, but a very small dream come true did happen for me today.

I should've known the day was going to be a good one when I dreamed I met Michael, Eric, and Terry J last night. (Weird thing was that, in the dream, Terry already knew me and I couldn't figure out why...) Never had a Python-related dream before - very strange. Anywho!

I went to the library today to check and see if they had "Time Bandits" (saw it before I was a fan, figured I should see it again), which they did, and in the process I decided to look up some of the Python members and see if the library had any of their solo projects. Sure enough, there was a whole treasure trove of stuff for me!

And the best part of it all was the discovery that they had the "Pole to Pole" videos and the "80 Days" videos, which I thought I'd never be able to see without buying because I can't find them anywhere here in Wisconsin. Even better, they had some of Michael's books (travel, fiction, and children's) and "A Private Function". Never heard of the last one. What do folks who've seen the movie think of it?

So I've quite a bit of Palin-watching to do. Definitely excited to learn more about the man and his travels, especially after checking out this site!

Oh, you've got to tell me about "Private Function" after you've read it Rusted!

Nottlob - "Private Function" is a movie, actually! :O)

It's from '84 (the year I was born - yikes) and I guess it costars the same people Michael shared the screen with in "The Missionary" - I've yet to see that myself, would really like to. I saw a lot of familiar faces in the movie.

Anyway, apologies to those of you who've seen the movie already - but to respond to your inquiry, nottlob, Michael plays a chiropadist (ye gods, help me with the spelling there) with a heart of gold who's trying very hard to better his and his wife's position in the town they've just moved into. I'm not an expert on the time period, but it takes place in 1947, and food rationing makes pork a rarity. A bunch of high-class folks are fattening an unlicensed pig for a big celebration dinner and Michael ends up stealing it to please his ambitious wife.

Unfortunately, he hasn't the heart to kill it and much pathos ensues. LOL! I thought that was the sweetest thing in the world, especially being a bit of a vegetarian myself. Michael played the role very well, he was very believable, and I got some good chuckles.

I won't spoil the end for you. :O)
