oh helen i feel the same way! i am terrified of flying! i start crying when i get on a plane to go on holiday! lol.

but it is very strange because in the past few months i have become quite interested in planes, especially planes from the 1st and 2nd world war. i got the chance to sit in one of the only flying lancaster bombers in the world and to be taxied down the runway in it! since this i feel that i am not as scared as i was. it think this is due to the fact that everything about this plane was explained to me and i have read about planes. having knowledge about them really helps to tackle the fear so get reading and down to the museums!

p.s. it's actually nice to know there is somebody out there who feels the same way! oh and do you have a reason for being scared of flying or can't you explain it? i don't have a reason, i am just scared and i don't know why! (strange!)

Hi Sophie Louise, poet extraordinaire! :)
I have no reason to be scared. i have never been on a plane, I just fear the unknown...
Not strange to me why you would be scared. In a metal tube zooming through the sky... hmmmm. Thrilling for some, downright scary for others....
thanks for yor tip. I will start reading...
:)

I usually pull at the little pillow they give you or grip the seat very hard! But have found recently taking a good book preferably a funny one helps me relax more.

Take tape-recorder, headset on ears, close your eyes, listen your favourite music and don’t think of flying.

my fear of flying began after the Indian Airlines plane was hijacked and taken to kandahar... and then 9/11... and so now everytime my flight takes off, i feel its going to blow up - full fuel and all... and alll i do is close my eyes and pump up the music on the head-phones (if the service is there) or just pray and focus my thoughts on something else...

I once flew from Blackpool to Dublin in a plane which resembled a Transit van with wings!
I recommend plenty of alcohol & ciggies.
