Great. Wonderful thing to do. Rather him than me though on a bike though. I've seen so many long dstance Cyclists in those countries, and my God they must be fit, to be cycling up 5,000 mtr passes with all that kit on their bike in either blazing arid sun,or freezing biting winds. When i first saw the article,i severely hoped he was not hoping to go the "southern route" ie "Turkey-Iran-Pakistan-China" etc. Baluchistan in South West Pakistan is one of the hottest places on earth, and i doubt he would of made it. This slow method is so much more enjoyable though. Sometimes when travelling, some occurence out of my control means that i'm stranded in the middle of nowhere and have to begin walking. It's so much more rewarding to walk through little villages that you (as he says in his article) usually just skim past. His only problem through Central Asia, could be corrupt police and ancient bueracracy, as he'll be seen as a prime target. Kids often enjoy the "game" of throwing rocks at foriegn bikers too. It's a pastime of theirs all over the world. Best of luck to him. I think i would rather walk though. But if he's fit enough, then i'm sure he's going to have a great trip.
