Michael Palin introduced me to travel reading, from the first episode of 80 days to Sahara I have sat up at night and been beamed around the globe.

Over the years I have broadened my range of travel authors, Benedict Allen providing a more personal viewpoint and my continuing wrestling with Hemingway.

Neil Peart of the rock band Rush has published two novels "The Masked Rider" about cyling in West Africa and more recently "Ghost Rider" about motorcyling in North America which discuss the deeper emotions that run high on such journeys.

What other author's do anyone else read ?

I highly recommend "Take Me With You: A Round-the-World Journey to Invite a Stranger Home." It reminded me very much of Palin's writings. Here the author takes a rollicking 100 day trip, vowing that he will invite one person he meets on his travels to visit him at his home in San Francisco. It's very entertaining and also socially conscious.

And I just finished reading "On Mexican Time" by Tony Cohan. It is the account of a California couple who moves to Mexico to seek a more simple life. Being the type of person who travels somewhere and immediately says "I could live here," it was interesting to read about the implications of making that sort of life change.

Happy travels,
Stephanie

I couldn't find "Take Me With You" stephlynne, is a british book? Because I live in Canada and that could be why. Thanks for sharing, I'll be sure to read these books :) If my library has them...

Hi nottlob. I'm in the US and managed to get a US version of the paperback. I know it is more popular in the UK than in the States, but I'm not sure if it was published in Canada. Good luck! I know they sell it at Amazon.com (where I got my copy).
