The Benefits of Growing Older

(and you thought there weren't any)

In a hostage situation you are likely to be released first.
No one expects you to run into a burning building.
Kidnappers are not very interested in you.
People call at 9 p.m. and ask, "Did I wake you?"
People no longer view you as a hypochondriac.

There's nothing left to learn the hard way.
Things you buy now won't wear out.
You can buy a compass for the dash of your car.
You can eat dinner at 4:00.
You can't remember the last time you laid
on the floor to watch television.

You consider coffee one of the most important things in life.
You can constantly talk about the price of gasoline.
You enjoy hearing about other people's operations.
You get into a heated argument about pension plans.
You got cable for the weather channel.

You have a party and the neighbors don't even realize it.
You no longer think of speed limits as a challenge.
You quit trying to hold your stomach in,
no matter who walks into the room.
You give lots of money to charities.
You sing along with the elevator music.

You have an age advantage whenever you need it.
Your Congressman pays attention to you.
You are not expected to keep up with technology or understand it.
You get travel and entertainment discounts.
Your investment in health insurance is finally beginning to pay off.

You can dance to the oldest music and no one laughs at you.
People come to you for help with their antique cars.
Your secrets are safe with your friends because
they can't remember them either.
You have great friends who think of you often
and send you lists like this.

As it was my 40th Birthday last month, any comments {wise words??} about growing older cause me to attempt some deep-meaningful thinking.

My antidote to combat any doom and gloom about getting older was travel related, so forgive me if I share some of the details with you here.

I booked an 18 day trip to Brazil, specifically planning that my 40th Birthday {August 21st} would happen on the 1st day of the trip and be spent in the stunning location of Rio de Janeiro. After that, and with 17 days of the trip still to enjoy, who cares about age!!

Did it work?? Feel free to look at some photos and judge for yourselves.....

Briefly : 1, Rio : 2+3, Iguacu Falls {stupendous!!} : 4, Manaus : 5,
Amazon Jungle {with local guide} : 6, Lencois : 7,8,9+10, Beaches at
Morro de Sao Paulo {Lovely and pretty much deserted}.

Bye for now,
Andrew

PS - "Number 1" at Copacabana Beach in Rio was the one actually taken on my Birthday, August 21st.

PPS - And one more thought provoking age comment : At 40, you should realise that you probably have more years behind you than ahead of you...{and then immediately resolve to make full use of all the ones that you have left RIGHT NOW!}

PPS - Lyn, Just seen your email. Ticket for Tuesday definitely going spare...but... now travelling up from Cardiff by car at around 2.30PM, which puts me in Hammersmith around 5.30?! {a little on the late side}.
Don't mind paying the £3.50 for a 'Guaranteed Next Day Delivery' if you know of anyone who would like the ticket - hence the post here.
I've just emailed you my phonenumber if you need to contact me.

PPS - Linda, did you get the Marillion/Fish photos??
