New Entrepreneur Group. by tucsonmike on 25 January 2006 1:32am

Five people here in Tucson put together a new entrepreneur group. We already have a way to get speakers and we are thinking big. So I wanted to share for anyone who is interested. I can post our mission statement.

I hate to "post and run" but need to get ready for my writers group.

Here you go Sight. The following is our notes from Monday.

Tucson Entrepreneurs Group Meeting

January 23, 2006

Attendees

Patti and David Mallen

Chris Lee

Chris Kovitz

Mike Charton

Objectives

* Decide if we want to stay within the Meet-up group or create our own Tucson entrepreneurs club
* If the latter identify our objectives, mission, goals etc and next steps

Notes

* We all agreed to proceed with trying to establish our own, independent Tucson entrepreneurs club, for the benefits of having the flexibility to determine our own mission, our own mtg locations and given the current Meet-up group has lost momentum.
* Our thoughts on what our groupís mission and goals should be include:
o Primarily to facilitate learning and sharing our experiences among the members
o To learn of the latest technologies and trends that impact members
o That we are run in a democratic manner and the group decides on mtg agendas, speakers, events etc
o We provide ample time to simply network, either before and/or after our mtgs
o Secondarily, that we assist each other where we can to grow our respective businesses, however, this should evolve out of mtgs and events, as opposed to being a main objective
* Suggested leads or contacts to grow interest and our membership
o Entrepreneurship dept at The Eller School and other relevant clubs and depts
o Major employers in the Tucson area: Intuit, Raytheon,
o Chamber of Commerce
* We need 1 or 2 leaders, who will take the lead of scheduling and facilitating mtgs and building and maintaining group momentum
o M Charton is willing to serve this role
o Co-leadership role TBD
* Consider benefits and feasibility of getting sponsored, for example by the UofA
* Website ideas: Show previous and future speakers and agendas, mission statement (what we are, and what we are not)
* Consider using alternating locations for our mthly mtgs, to accommodate members traveling from long distances

Action Items

* Contact friends and colleagues and to identify fellow entrepreneurs or aspiring entrepreneurs to invite to our next mtg (All)
* Secure a domain name for the group (I purchased both tucsonentrepreneurs.com and .org, should we decide to use them. I was surprised they were available)
* Develop a mission statement (C Kovitz to develop a draft and circulate to the group. See below)
* Plan to meet again in one month and to invite other interested members who we have recruited (M Charton to schedule location, time and send out reminder)

We have the potential to really grow this and we are looking at spreading it.
