Strange But Nice. by Sophie-Louise on 30 January 2007 1:46pm

I was walking up Steep Hill to my lecture this morning, I was day dreaming while listening to my ipod. I was looking at the floor and thinking hard about the day ahead! This young man stopped by standing in front of me and smiled at me. As I took my headphones out he shook my hand and told me his name (which i've now forgotten) then said: 'Have a nice day'. Looking very confused but greatful I said 'thank you and you too.' He went on to say: 'Just make sure you do' and then he walked off. I thought how strange but nice at the same time!

You expect someone like that to have an alternative motive, such as to sell you something or make you give money to some unknown charity. I suppose some people are just very kind... or crazy. I think he was just very kind. This might sound really stupid but I could just tell he was a very good and genuine person by the way he spoke to me.

There are still some nice people out there. Maybe if we see someone looking worried we should do more??? I don't know... Just made me think!

while i'd not like to take the premise of worldly goodness out've your heart. might it not have been someone being very silly?

i know id like to hope that there are still such nice people out there

Being one of those 'silly' acting people out there, I'd say that it does happen. The look on your face, the way you radiate happiness can prompt somebody to introduce himself. Our society is teaching us to suspect everyone and their actions. Too bad.

Most people are good, but always be wary.

i could tell he wasn't joking, it was very strange, i can't explain why.

i agree pete! i judged him straight away tbh, because i get stopped in the street about 5 times a day to be told about stupid charities that i've never heard of!

Well I think it's a lovely story, I always go with my instincts and Soph if you think he was genuine, he probably was :)

Go with your gut if you think he was a nice guy. Still can't imagine that happening in England. California maybe.
