Just a random post - my uncle WAS a Canadian lumberjack!! Never met him as he was killed 'walking the logs', probably in the 1920s or 1930s (I was a late baby and so was my Mom so I had aunts and uncles who were born in the 1890s!!).

John looked genuinely surprised to me. If it had been a planned joke, he would have had a bigger reaction.

Yes I thought that - his face was a picture. I think his last line was an ad-lib.

Either that or he is a brilliant actor....

.....suppose we'll have to wait for the next volume of the diary to find out!!

I'm prettu sure it was planned. That's what the sketch was about and that's what's made it funny- The audience thought theyt where gonna see the real one, but they surprised them. If it wasn't planned I think we had seen a little smile there. I mean, they cut half the sketch of

Maybe John's a better actor than I've given him credit for. I do think he's quite good, just not great. But he looked so genuinely surprised--lost for words and about to laugh. I think he would have thrown in that last line just so Michael wouldn't have gotten ALL of the laughs. He's pretty good with spontaneous comebacks.

Yeah, but I don't think Michael would have cut of half the sketch, that's quite alot. I just think John is a very good actor :-)
