In Heaven there is no beer
So I'll drink to you now, with a cheer (hooray!)
Come now my dear,
and lend me an ear,
I'll tell you my tale, no fear:

I was just packing up my gear
I had to get out of here
There were those who did jeer
And a few who did leer
For drunk I was, more than mere

I staggered to a hotel near
And into the window did peer
The lobby looked queer
(as in "weird" not gay)
So I staggered round to the rear

A sudden pain did sear
As I fell, I shed a tear
I saw headlights veer
And the following year
I awoke in a hut in Zaire

So that is my story, my dears
I hope you're not bored to tears
If you are, never fear
I'm closing it here...

Pass the antelope stew, please

Yours, at the bottom of page 1, tucsonmike reminded me of one I wrote many years ago and it may be in a much earlier poet's thread.

At Christmastime it's good
to eat a lot of food
but on Boxing day we go to ground
because our stomach's very round.

On Hogmanay up here
they drink a lot of beer
but on New Year's Day they're not so frisky
because they finish off on whisky.
