RIP Mrs Ball. 102 years was a great innings.

My best friend is Eddie McGuinness, we have known each other for 52 years ( my lifetime, Eddie is 54. )
He is a quiet and unassuming man and although we don't often meet, I know he is always there for me.
He was best man at my wedding and I should have been his best man but I had arranged a trip to Australia at the time.
Eddie's one fault ? He will be late for his own funeral.

My mum has had a friend since she was 10 and now she's 68 so that's 58 years.

Can you make new friends ?
I find it difficult. I think I reject people.

I think so jtm. But there is only a handful of people who really know me well.

It's me that's weird Loretto. I tend to think that friends are people you grew up with, everything else seems a poor substitute.

Re: Lifelong friends by Loretto on 6 April 2010 8:09pm

No, not weird. I think as I get older I become more cautious about who I call a friend. I can't stand fakes! I am more sure of what I like in a friend and I become more choosy about it. Maybe you are like that too?

No. I'm just a weird old b.
I've got three guys that I count as friends but when shove comes to push, Eddie will be the last man standing. He is a friend that I wouldn't swap for the world.

l find that people more often than not let you down so i have just a few close friends that l stick to and that'll do me nicely. One of them is Miss M. I have no desire to make new friends at this point in life.

Kazzzz, there is a story of an impressive friendship. I have one childhood friend.

My oldest friend was made before either of us were born. Our parents, when THEY were children, all knew each other, went to grade school together, grew up, dated and married. So, we always say we have known each other since before birth. We were born 26 days apart and remain best friends to this very second. Let's just say we are in our early 60's. That's a long friendship.
