What about my guess at the answer, Ken?

Ken the Stars and stripes is the USA flag!!

The stars on both the Brazilizan and the Australian flags are ACTUAl stars as can be seen in the night sky; the stars on the USA flag can't be seen in the sky.

Or maybe the stars on the Brazilian and Australian flags can both be seen in the SOUTHERN sky?

Having said all this (and the stars thing IS correct) - I believe that Sue has the correct answer to your question!!

Haha ! Sue and Anne are trying to get Ken to think rationally. ;)

LOL, Ken. "copyright permitting". Yeah, posting a paragraph of Michael's book on Michael's site, could land you in The High Court.

Well done Sf2. You win the competition. The constellation on the back cover is only visible from Australia (and Brazil) and not USA.

Aye, you can't be too careful these days JTM.

Well, I will let YOU choose the paragraph, Ken, while I write my acceptance speech......

Page 200 paragraph 2. Details to follow.

In the afternoon Bel takes me to the top of Corcovado to see the Redentor close up. It's not easy. During its five-year construction all the materials used to build the Christ were brought up on a cog railway, built in 1884. The railway still runs and the red two-car trains are still the best way to get to the top. There is an access road but parking is restricted. There is a path, but it's long and steep and on a hot day like today it's very much the adventure option. At the station below, there is nearly always a surplus of demand over supply and there are queues for each train.`patience is rewarded by an excitingly precipitous twenty-minute climb through the forest, and at the top it's an escalator ride to the feet of Christ. The figure, which looms 30 metres into the sky, has a colossal strength, but it's a strength that lies in restraint. The straight fall of the robe, the tilt of the head, the long shielding hands. The great skill of Heitor and Landowskiis to have distilled a universal compassion. Though it is a likeness of Christ it seems to transcend any single religion.

Competiton part 3. Same rules as before.

What are the first 3 words of paragraph 2 on page 300 of Brazil.

This will be the last of my Brazil book competitions (unless there is any great clamour for a fourth one).
