The Chatter Box : Blathering On
Kazakh Book by tucsonmike on 11 October 2007 8:50pm
Tuesday night was interesting. My Sister City group had a reception for the Rector of Al-Farabi University in Almaty. He was visiting the United Nations to hear President Nazarbaev speak along with a flunky who did everything for this guy. The rector is an old style Communist, who speaks no English. It was interesting to watch. Well, I was pulled over on the side and asked if I could do a documentary about the Kazakh students here, both a book and a film. It would stretch over ten years, so this is not immediate. In other words, I can finish my other books in the meantime.

Oooh, oooh, oooh, can I help? I'd love to do whatever to get a doc on Kazakhstan produced. I'm a frustrated documentarian. [I never intended to spend 30 years doing animation since I really wanted to do docs but there was very little funding back then pre-cable and absolutely none of it went to women. A very talented friend of mine back then actually got on a Cousteau expedition but, once she was aboard the Calypso, she was only allowed to cook (and repulse the advances of the crew.) She much, much later went on to win an Oscar.)]

I just got a whole load of pics of Kazakh salukis which I'll have to send you privately since I can't post pics here.

Yes, you can help. Still figuring out details in doing this.
