Oh dear, from which century comes this regulation Mike? World communism happend to collapse 18 years ago, someone should tell this to your authorities. Poor revolutionizer Fidel hasn't any allies any more and runs already on backup battery.

Holger, the only reason we still have this is the Conservative Cuban voting bloc in South Florida.

I saw a travel documentary on Cuba a few days ago. What the American embargo does is keep Cuba from being overrun by the American economy. No flashing McDonald's signs or their garbage all over the street.

The country struggles, but has the same appearance it had in the 50's...old architecture, half run-down, but quaint. Few vehicles on the road because they can't buy new ones. The few cars there are look like 1950's vehicles held together and kept running with ingenuity and hope. Lower prices for everything, of course, it is all domestic.

The love of life in the people is heartwarming. They know the relative importance of having fun and loving your family.

Maybe I should try to get there on a low budget.

Cuba has universal healthcare, basic food and lodging needs are guaranteed and education is totally free up through the PhD level. Cuba certainly has a lot to answer for in the way of personal freedoms but from my current perspective of watching the corporate media barons skewing and censoring our news and information sources, seeing the incredible amount of debt my young friends incur in financing their educations and being branded as uninsurable for health care by profit-hungry insurance companies (and their corporate doctors refusing to accept uninsured patients), I think I'd be a lot better off in Cuba.
