We are all sick by freakcc on 15 April 2003 7:33pm

The Daily Mail says we are sick. Honestly. Obviously coming from that particular publication it's something of a compliment but I don't think it was intended that way. Yesterday, (I don't read it, honestly, my mother passed it to me pointedly) there was this article about 'Celebrity Worship Syndrome'. It starts off innocently then you become pathological and start killing people and buying napkins that you're hero/ine has used. I just thought I should warn you.

That would explain all the napkins I have around the house! Hold on . . . napkins . . . . start killing people before napkin collecting . . . . aha! That would explain the strange smell coming from my wardrobe and why I cannot get in there nowadays. I'm loading it up with bodies!

This doesn't apply to us at all.

These days, it's become more and more difficult to find a real hero.

What disgusts me about the present day culture is that far, far too many of the heroes are sports personalities - ooh, look at what he just did: he just scored the greatest goal I've ever seen in my life. Wow, what skill. I wish I could do to the ball what he just did to the ball.

Yeah, yeah - whatever. Do me a favor and go boil your head.

What our culture needs is a hero or two who's articulate and passionate about real world stuff - like travelling and getting to know your fellow human being. Michael Palin is a person worth following.

I'll say that again.

You can take your David Beckhams and go jump in a lake. What has David Beckham ever really done for us? Nothing, that's what. David Beckham - and the rest of the David Beckhams of this world - are so over-rated that the very word itself has lost its meaning.

Give me more Michaelf Palins. Please.

This world is in desperate need of real heroes.

Most of us don't even know what a hero is anymore.

Michael is a hero. He's my hero, anyhow.

Re: We are all sick by my dear on 16 April 2003 3:09pm

Am I spelling hero properly?

I am the world's worst speller!

In other words, don't call me sick for participating in a forum that's dedicated to a person who actually is worth writing about.

Thank-you.

Because I resent that.
