Tears of joy! by AGM on 5 November 2008 4:16pm
My home state of Ohio finally turned blue!

They learned from their mistakes in 2004, I guess.

The whole nation learned from the enormous mistakes of 2000 and 2008.

I want to thank the Republican Party for providing us with a President who f**ked up so incredibly badly that we could actually elect a black man. Never thought it would happen in my lifetime.

BTW, I've been watching the last season of "West Wing". I think someone must of had a crystal ball because of the incredible parallels between the Alan Alda/Jimmy Smits battle for the Presidency with the campaign we just had. The "West Wing" people admitted long ago that they based the Smits character on Obama but they made him Latino because electing a black President was even too outrageous for that outrageous show. I always called West Wing "my favorite fantasy show" but I think I'll have to revise that phrase.

I wept, too...

I think lots of people like me in Uk have been tearful on and off when they see news pictures, or just think of it.

It's momentous for the world (sorry if I sound trite. If only UK had someone as charismatic & inspiring (good job though Gordon is doi ng at the moment).

Hah! I had assumed that they based the Jimmy Smits character on Gov. Bill Richardson.
Re: Tears of joy! by sighthound on 5 November 2008 10:49pm
Nope, they developed the Santos character after they saw Obama's speech at the 2004 convention. And Alda's Vinnick character was based largely on McCain. Fiction can be stranger than truth.

mrsthing, sad to say a lot of people I know here would have voted for George Bush if he could have run again this year!
Re: Tears of joy! by mrsthing on 6 November 2008 9:09pm
Yes, AGM. 48% of Americans voted for McCain, so apparently quite a lot of us were happy with things the way they were. I hope they'll be proven wrong in their doubts about Obama.
