  The Chatter Box : Travel
Places you pass through constantly by BB-Scala on 5 May 2003 5:47pm
This is something that crosses my mind quite often: There are certain cities of the "landlocked" sort that I seem to pass through regularly in order to get "anywhere" -- for instance -- no matter where I seem to go southwest of where I live, I pass through Scranton, Pennsylvania -- there are two (or maybe more) main highways that intersect in this town. Once, I stopped in Scranton just to see what the big deal was (why do I always wind up here ?) - There was nowhere to park and I couldn't find a cappuccino to save my life! I was disheartened and thence (then and hence lazily strewn together - this is still a valid word, librarians!) took the wrong exit back to the highway which led to a road called "Drinker Street" -- at this point, I'm convinced I was in "The Twilight Zone!" Another similar oddity exists in Kilkenny, Ireland -- driving, or by train, one usually winds up in this town heading to points west or south in Ireland (if you are leaving from Dublin or your final destination is Dublin). I'm not complaining but I started wondering what it must be like to live in these places where daily life is so drastically influenced by "through traffic..." Places such as these must exist all over the world -- sans ports, can you add to my small list?
