Our youngest grandchild, Tamzin Aliyah who has just turned 9 recently sang with her classmates at the Royal Opera House in London (they live in Kent).

As you can imagine it was a great experience for her - the people from the Opera house came to the school regularly for rehearsals etc. and then there were rehearsals at the ROH itself.

It was called 'On the Rim of the World'.

Anyway, it is all to do with getting young people involved and interested in opera. It seems to have worked. Our daughter said yesterday that Tammy had told her teachers that when she leaves school she wants to be a wrestler for 2 years (she is MAD about wrestling!!) and then wants to be an opera singer!!

By the way, Roger Lloyd-Pack was in the audience!!

Well it was actually 13th March but I'm sure she'll appreciate your kind wishes, Pete!

Thank you.

Sounds like a wonderful opportunity and experience!

Lovely. The Royal Opera House, despite its perhaps off-putting name & image is REALLY welcoming and their outreach is great. Children do get a lot out of them, as Tamzin did. And it's a glorious-looking building, many sparkling chandeliers, gilt & red velvet andf the Victorian ironwork of the Floral Hall, now incorporated as a bar! - so she probably enjoyed that too.

Yes. So if in, say 10 years, you hear of a lady WWE wrestler giving it all up after two years and becoming an opera singer - that'll be our Tammy!!!

You must be very proud of her Anne :)

I AM impressed! An athletic pursuit in conjunction with opera is an ideal combination. Training for wrestling helps build the fitness required for opera singing and the disparity between a performing art and a physical sport will encourage her to have a balanced character.

This bodes well for the future of opera.
