Phil Spector convicted...at last!! by bIG bLOGGER on 14 April 2009 4:01pm
Record Producer Phil Spector,68,has finally been convicted by a Los Angeles jury of the 2nd-degree murder of actress Lana Clarkson,40,at his Hollywood castle-mansion six years ago.
A previous jury could not arrive at a verdict.
Spector will be sentenced later this month, but is facing at least 18 years in prison.
The lead prosecutor said Mr.Spector had confessed to being possessed by inner demons,he was often consumed by rage which was compounded by all the drugs he took,he had issues of misogyny against women, and had pointed a gun in the face of 5 women prior to this shooting, except on those occasions the chamber had been empty.

With his wild hair, bulging eyes and ravaged countenance,Spector's appearance was a truly awful sight, like some creature from the depths of the black lagoon.

Thank heavens for it! He had threated to kill ex-wife Ronni Spector if she left, but somehow she was able to get away unscathed.

Was quite surprised to read about this - hadn't heard anything at all about his 'habits' and a previous trial.

Yes, he certainly looked out of control on the news pictures.

About time. Better late than never.

Glad you all agree.

This case may be notable for several reasons:

* No defendant in a US coutroom (as far as I know) has worn so many extravagant wigs. What was he trying to say, apart from : "I like a different coiffure for every day of my trial"..?

* The Los Angeles Times claimed that Spector is the first celebrity defendant found guilty of murder on Hollywood's home turf in at least 40 years, given the notorious acquittals of O.J.Simpson and Robert Blake among those who have escaped justice.

* This is no doubt partly because celebrities hire the very cleverest (but most expensive)legal teams and forensic experts to testify in their defence. One of Spector's defence team was reputed to be on a whack of about $1 million dollars a year. But it's also refreshing that despite the colossal amounts of money thrown at defending him,Spector still did not impress the second jury and they voted unanimously that he was guilty as charged.

* The guilty verdict will certainly open the way for a 'wrongful death' lawsuit to be brought by the family of the victim,Lana Clarkson. If successful this could put the final nail in the coffin of Phil Spector's reputation and his diminishing bank balance.

So,amen,Mr Spector..may you enjoy your new life in the penitentiary.
