The Chatter Box : Blathering On

80 days-then and now by jambopoppy on 4 November 2009 7:58pm

I have been watching the recent 'around the world in 80 days' remake on the BBC and I think I've found the reason that, when Michael Palin did it, it was so much better than the current one. Firstly Michael seemed to take it all in his stride. You would never see him running hysterically for the last train or making dramas out of tiny things. I think that also, because it was Michael Palin's first time making a travel documentary he had nothing to lose, nothing to expect, and nothing to live up to which can't be said for the current series. The final point on why I think Michael Palin's documentaries were so popular was because of the time he went. At that time things were still just being advanced travel was still relatively rare and technology had not reached the stage of distraction. The eighties is my favourite era and I think if he did it for his first time now he'd have to find more remote places for it to be as adventurous.

sorry for blathering on!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've only watched the latest one with the 2 off BBC brekkie, and found it very enjoyable.

The husband thinks they got off lightly though, as they were mainly on trains and boats.

Looking forward to the next one with John Barrowman (cor! wot a waste, girls!!) and (lucky lucky lucky) Myleene Kass.

I know they are collecting items to auction off (its all for Children in Need) but the husband and I would LOVE the journal that each pair add to and which has notes from MP in!!! Bet that'll go for LOADS!!

:)

My nan LOVES John rofl! Strangely, I don't. He's OK but bit of a pretty boy.

Would love that journal too, Anne!! Hands off, it's mine! :)
