How Nanny State/PC nonsense & BB ruined my day. by johnnythemonkey on 23 April 2010 4:47am

Yes all three on a twenty minute train journey to Glasgow.

Firstly, the recorded voice telling you which nowhere station in the East end of Glasgow you are approaching and telling to to "Mind the gap when you alight." What gap ? I didn't see one. And in that part of Glesca, a light means only one thing...for your ciggie!

Then the fact that most of these stations have the name also in Scottish Gaelic. This minority language should be allowed to die ! Almost noone speaks it as a first language and yet they throw millions of pounds at the few that do ( more people speak Urdu in Scotland ). PC and SNP crap.

Then I arrive at Glasgow Queen St to be told as I ascend the stairs " Please use the handrail and be careful on the stairs. " At least three times in a thirty second ascent !

Why do we put up with such nonsense ? I used to make that same journey when I was 12 ( unbeknown to my mother). I know how to get on and off a train, I know how to walk up stairs and I don't need to know what Carntyne means in Gaelic. ( amazingly enough, I think it was carn tin with the wee slanty accents on top. )

Well, this is how it is these days, health and safety, political correctness, etc.

You know I never thought about the amount of money it takes to keep a language alive. We're experiencing the same thing in Ireland. In fact when I graduated from secondary school you could not apply to University unless you had completed Honors Gaelic Irish and received a C,B or an A. I used to teach it for a group called the Wild Geese when i first came to America. The truth is language is a living thing, it changes and like all living things it (or a form of it) will die. What's the use in throwing money after something that most people don't use anyway. Having said that there is a huge revival of Irish Speaking schools in Ireland. Tons of Saturday schools in NY to teach kids Irish. Although I am proud that I can speak it, I went to school with kids who detested it. And because they couldn't master the language some very bright kids were kept out of University.

Loretto: I am impressed to hear you have conducted a seminar in Gaelic with geese.
Q: Have you ventured to try dog [or horse] whispering yet,in Gaelic?

It is so not true that I have ruined someone's day.
This is so not at all factual.
I am consulting with my Kazakh Lawyer team in Almaty,to take their professional advices.

In my little Kazakh village we have bIG herds of goats, sheep, pigs, cattle and many camels.
Men do trade their animals for new wives, and sometimes they trade their wives for new animals.
That is how we do business hereabouts, and it is called striking the right bargain.
Last week I was in what finances bother and I had to trade 1 wife to buy 3 new she-camels,but they are giving good milk so look all people are happy and joyful.

Goats??
Well this thread IS about the Nanny state...

As a Kazakh farmer of some knowledge,I know it for true that a bull can smell a cow on heat from miles away, even when wind is in a long direction.

Cows are to moo,a bit silly.
Bulls are not a bit silly with a cow on heat, never moo,but bull attends to the business.
Bulls bellow and roar, and are wicked animals often with the cows.
Farmers know these matters.

(See bellow....)
