Why are we not talking about....? by Loretto on 17 November 2010 6:43pm

The Royal engagement, poor old Ireland and the possible bailout?

That blue dress she wore in the interviews was stunning. Love it!

Ireland....my heart breaks for ye; but where did all the freaking money go during the "Celtic Tiger?"

I think Euronews answered that last question for me...

euronews: “Did someone cheat?”

Gros: “It is quite clear that in Ireland something very strange must have happened. The Irish banks were given more or less a clean bill in July, and in September, suddenly the Irish government discovers a hole worth 20-30 percent of GDP. That should not happen in a normal country.”

OK Last night I was watching Euronews and I think some people have more money than sense. There is an exhibition in Berlin from 5 Nov-6 Feb that educates the public on the use of Soma.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soma

So here's where you need more money than common sense;
For the small sum of ONE THOUSAND EURO you get to watch reindeer eat mushrooms, urinate, and guess what, then you get to drink the urine and hallucinate!

http://www.somainberlin.org/

Translation:
In search of another world is Carsten Höller at the Hamburger Bahnhof for the origin of Soma, an intoxicating drink of the mystical in the 2nd Indo-Vedas Millennium BC. Soma brought the Vedic knowledge and access to the divine sphere, and was praised in their hymns to the highest degree. The herbal ingredient of this beverage is delivered is not obvious, from the botanical, ethnological and etymological point of view, however, speaks much to suggest that it may have been to the mushroom.

For this situation out, Carsten Holler, a scenario developed between the laboratory and vision of supposed objectivity and increased subjectivity. Before the eyes of the viewer unfolds in one room-wide "living image", a symmetrical experimental field that is divided along its central axis into two halves and in a double blind trial compares the ordinary world with the realm of the soma.

It is an experiment, the completion in the minds of viewers and is subject to its analysis of their observation. On a mushroom-shaped platform in the middle of the arrangement is a bed, where guests have the opportunity to spend a night at the museum and enter the world of Soma.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/eu_switzerland_antimatter

"Two teams had been competing to trap anti-hydrogen atoms at CERN, the world's largest physics lab best known for its $10 billion smasher, the Large Hadron Collider. The collider, built deep under the Swiss-French border, wasn't used for this experiment."

So where was the antimatter captured then, and did the world just build a 10 billion dollar pipe line for no reason? :-)

Beyond my comprehension (the atomic antimatter, I mean, not THE FORTHCOMING WEDDING).

I'd share the burden of the 10 billion with you, Loretto.

Shall we say 50:50?

:D

60:40 in my favour - remember I'm used to haggling in Turkey!!

Just a little story that the others have probably heard but don't think you have, Loretto.

On our second visit to Turkey in 1989, we took a friend with us - I think it was probably his first trip abroad. Amyway, we had a great time, and of course it was hot and sunny so on the first or second day we took him to buy a hat.

I can't remember the prices then, and the lira has gone up since those days and also had noughts taken off it (at one stage it was over a million lira to the pound) so the figures are pure guesses.

Shopkeeper (when Mick had chosen): 500 lira

Mick: 600!

Shopkeeper: (laughing) 700!!!

Mick: (Seriously) 800!

We were nearly wetting ourselves with laughing, and the shopkeeper couldn't believe his luck!!

As I said, can't remember the figures but basically he haggled up instead of down!! D'oh!!

Believe you me Mick has never been able to live that down, I even had it printed in a national magazine!

:D
