MMA, UFC...is it popular in your country? by Lounge Trekker on 10 December 2010 4:34am
So the big news in Canada is UFC is 'coming' to Toronto! Woo hoo! It's only several thousand kilometres from me and three million other people in British Columbia.

Dana White was interviewed by a Canadian sports host and claimed MMA to be second only to soccer as the most popular sport in the world. He did have a good point when he said, "Before people threw a ball, or kicked a ball, there were to guys disliked each other and fought. People gathered round to watch." OK, I can see that, but is Mixed Martial Arts a popular 'sport' in your part of the world.

Personally, boxing is a snoozer, compared to UFC and the sooner it dies out, the better. I like UFC. When two guys enter the octagon, somebody is gonna hurt and somebody will do the victory dance and rarely is the fight a dissapointment.

Here are the rules: http://www.fighting-mma.com/ufc-rules-and-regulations.php

Most of them are self-explanatory. Take note that there is no kicking or kneeing to the head of a grounded opponent. It is perfectly legal to kick or knee an opponent in the head at any other time. You can use your elbows except when a blow is applied downward with the point of the elbow. You cannot be timid, avoid contact with your opponent and you cannot throw in the towel.
