Irish Women Murdered in Turkey by Spursfan2 on 19 August 2011 3:35pm

This is shocking - I have never known anything like this to happen in the 23 years we have been going to Turkey!!

Incidentally Kusadasi is where we have our apartment and Izmir is where we fly to. It has a large ex-pat community, some of whom we know (we prefer to mix with the local Turkish community rather than the ex-pats but they can be useful!!) and I am sure they are all talking about this!!

Very sad.

I think of the two families who have each lost their mothers. That 17 year old just wasn't right in the head. Sorry, but he wasn't.

Awful. Not much else one can say about it, really.

We saw our son this morning (we took Alfie out on a weekly outing (pix on FB shortly!)) and he said that when he, his wife and Alfie (and their friends - and us actually!!) were in Kusadasi in June this year they met the alledged murderer.

They recognised him from his photo in the paper, and put two and two together with what he'd told them at the time. They'd commented on his iphone and he had shown them pix of his girlfriend on it. He'd told them she was 15 and from Ireland. Si said he thought at the time it was a bit iffy that she was only 15 - he (the Turkish lad) hadn't said how old he was, Si said he looked older than 17.

I THINK Si said the lad was a waiter in a restaurant they went to.

A dreadful thing to happen, poor women. How creepy that your son actually met him, Anne.
