2011 Rugby World Cup by Ken Dunn on 11 September 2011 9:24am

It's good to see the three 'home' teams (England, Scotland and Ireland) have won their first matches in New Zealand. If Wales do the same against South Africa (starting in about 5 minutes time) then it will be the jackpot for the UK.

I thought the USA did very well against Ireland and some of the commentators didn't give them enough credit for their performance.

Wales missed the jackpot by 2 points!

Wales was robbed!

The penalty kick that James Hook took looked as if it was swerving to go outside the right hand post but in the air it swerved back again and went between the posts. When I saw the kick I said, 'He's got it,' but the touch judges verdict was different (wrong?). The camera angle was very good to make judgement on the kick as it's the one I tend to try to use when photographing conversions and penalties at Kirkcaldy.

I've just seen the most amazing penalty score by Saracens v Bath recently. The ball, kicked from a distance on the left angle hit the right hand post, deflected across to hit the left hand post and dropped through behind the posts for the three points. (ITV4)

I really enjoy World Cup Rugby, but not having TV I'm relying on your comments, Ken.

Good to hear from you LT.

Re. the Wales kick, I've thought that if the cameraman was on zoom while following the ball it could possibly have been a miss.

I see Scotland have won their second match against Georgia (near Turkey).

Ireland won their second match, against Australia, earlier today.

Well done Ireland. Australia is a good team, right? And rugby is with a stick, a net and black and white ball?

I hope you're kidding L.! The Australian team is very good. Rugby has got vague similarities to American Football but they don't wear helmets or excessive padding. Forward passing is not allowed and as much rearward passing as the team likes is possible during a 'play'.
