2,200 Euro for hideous horsehair wigs. What?

What an amount for one wig! The wigs do hide the bald patches though! LOL

Why did the judges wear wigs anyway????? What do they represent?

*Jumping up and down and waving raised hand in the air*

I know! I know!

Allegedly when the practice of wearing the horsehair wigs came into fashion, courtrooms were very unsanitary places and it was easy to contract lice. So it was either shorn heads or fake hair!

Also wigs were worn by "bigwigs," that is, the courtier's fashion was to wear powdered wigs. The more elabourate the wig the wealthier the courtier.

And supposedly the traditional garb worn by judges in the British Supreme Courts is itchy, uncomfortable and can be stinky!

@ Peri: Because looking good was more important than being clean; a tradition carried on today by Lindsay Lohan.

@ Kazzz, you sure now, not yellow or blue or green? :-)Purple? Really?
