Turkish Earthquake by Spursfan2 on 23 October 2011 7:09pm

I am sure most of you will have heard of this 7.2 earthquake in Van, SE Turkey.

My thoughts are with the Turkish people, especially those suffering loss or injury from this terrible tragedy. I am so sad for them, they are such lovely people.

I have to say it is the one thing I am scared of when visiting Turkey - this isn't helped by the fact that we have to buy earthquake insurance for our apartment (by law)!! And looking at an earthquake map of Turkey we are slap bang in the middle of an area of high risk!! In fact we have felt many minor shocks.

Unfortunately, as often happens in a Turkish earthquake a lot of the deaths and major injuries were caused by people panicking and jumping out of high windows.
