Lounge Trekker intends to survive another winter by Lounge Trekker on 3 November 2013 5:04am

edit Sunday morning

I installed my new portable sauna today! I was so excited I immediately turned it on and took my clothes off. I entered after ten minutes and the temperature was only 95F. When I was done after 55 minutes, the temperature was 118.

I will let it heat up more for my next use and see if that helps the experience. It doesn't feel as nice as a thermal sauna that has been hot for hours, but I did sweat and it will help me get going on cold days.

It is 1600 watts so an hour of operation costs me $.16 at $.10 perKWh. That means an hour a day would cost less than $5.00 a month.

What will you do to enhance or just survive the coming winter? Mike, this is your chance to tell us more about winter in Tucson.

We've set our heating control to come on automatically for short periods three times a day. I had to get dressed in foul weather gear to go to the rugby yesterday. My wife may bake or use the oven more - this puts some extra heat into the kitchen.

I have only tried a sauna once. I thought I was going to pass out with the heat and could only stay there for about 5 minutes!

Success! I officially survived another winter yesterday. I hit tennis balls over the net first time this year.

It is, however, still a rainy time of the year and there will be no tennis today.

Hey man!

Congratulations! I just survived winter in the tropics.. that means 10-20 °C.. but today it was over 30 °C, so I guess winter is over :)

Growing passionfruit vines in the garden, they're loving the spring rains and warmer weather..

I presume you had a lot of snow, Pete? LOL, ev - you are lucky!

Great news, ev! I'd really like olives, lemons and avacados in my garden, but passionfruit is right over the top!

I needed to shovel a few inches from my driveway this year, but winters are generally quite 'mild' here. Two to three weeks of temperatures below freezing.

The ski hill plans to open until the end of April. I've been sitting nearly naked beneath the sun for weeks now!
