Reunion with old schoolfriends by suzulu on 11 September 2015 9:30pm

While I was in Wales last month, I met up with an old schoolfriend whom I hadn't seen since I left school many many many years ago. We contacted each other after seeing that we are both in the same Facebook group. It turns out she only lives about 5 minutes walk from my sister. I was invited to her house and we spent three hours catching up! I also met her husband who is a vicar.

Strangely, this week I had a Facebook message from a chap who was in my year at school as he noticed me in this same Facebook group. Apparently a lot of the "lads" from that year meet up regularly once a year, coming from all parts of UK and even from Australia and Canada. Sadly the chap from Canada and his wife were killed in a car crash over there two years ago.

He asked if we "girls" had reunions like this but sadly, no, we don't.

Oh how sad, but lovely that you met up with your friend.

My two best friends from schooldays and I still meet up as often as we can, which sadly is only 3 or 4 times a year, though we speak on the phone and via email much more often!! Zak usually says 'see you in an hour!' when he knows one of them is on the phone! We've been friends since junior school, aged 8, which is 54 years ago - OMG !

I feel really blessed to have them both still in my life.

I also 'run' a page on Facebook for ex-pupils of my old girls' high school, which went comprehensive and changed to girls AND boys in the 1970s. My group is only for pupils before the change. Most members are from just before the change to comprehensive, and I even have a few from the 1950s and even before, but very few from my own year!! However, a couple of girls joined who were actually in my form and I am now friends with them on FB; one lives in Hong Kong and one in Scotland.

Members share memories of the school, teachers and ex-pupils (one of which was Carol Ann Duffy - though she hasn't asked to join yet lol) and also post photos which are nice to see.
