Seussical! by watercub on 18 November 2003 10:09am

Funny funny....I may be behind in the loop here, but this weekend I went to go see the off-Broadway tour of Seussical the Musical (based on the Dr. Seuss books in case you couldn't guess)...and in the playbook Eric Idle was listed as a "co-conceiver" (whatever that may be)!

It was a VERY clever little show...and very funny for adults, I might add...I was just surprised going in to see him affiliated with it, but after seeing it, I really understood...many of the songs had "half-a-bee" qualities! ;-)

One note: the playbook misspelled his name as "Eric Idol", then in his bio paragraph spelled his name correctly when plugging his tour!

Summary: well worth the price of admission...very original and funny!

I saw the traveling tour in October. That was such a cute show. I wonder how much Eric was really involved ("co-conceiver" is rather an enigmatic title)?

That's the same thing I was wondering, Desi...but it seems according to Tracy that he helped write... the show I saw did have little twisted sense of humor bits that could definitely been his work...

I agree. Any time they broke the fourth wall and drew attention to the fact that it was a play...well, I absolutely heard Eric's voice in that. He would've been a marvelous Cat (forget Mike Myers). Seeing the show also made me extremely excited for "Spamalot." I cannot wait for that one.

Well, EI didn't write the whole thing. Apparently he wrote the first draft, but other people did the rewrites -- which ruined it, since it bombed on Broadway. They shoulda kept EI!!
