What To Do With The Leftover Christmas Wrappings?????????????? by ellenpc on 25 November 2003 12:35am

Whilst writing an e-mail to Lyn<>Diamond recently I'd mentioned to her one of the ways I use up the left over piles of Chrissy wrapping paper that are left over from the unwrapping frenzy that is Christmas morning, or in our house 5.45 - 5.51am Christmas morning!!! And I thought if I shared my wrapping paper secrets with you all, you might like to share yours back and "hey ho, off we go.......there could be a book out of this you know.........?" :-)

Useful Leftover Wrapping Paper Uses Part One.

Culinary.

Take two generous handfuls of leftover Christmas wrapping paper and chop it finely.

Add one medium onion, diced

Beat two eggs and add to mixture

Chop finely two tablespoons of fresh Sage and add to the mixture

Add a pinch of salt to taste and a 'sneeze' of pepper to the mixture

Mix thoroughly and use to stuff a large sized New Years Turkey or Chicken.

Try it, you'll like it!

N.B. Remember to remove all pieces of sellotape from the paper before chopping as it tends to give the stuffing a very mysteriously chewy texture that is hard to explain away to your assembled dinner guests.

me, being tight and not having much money, would probably save it for next year and stick it all back together

or put it in the hamsters cage, they love to chew on it!

With green wrapping paper I have it cut up in thin long strips, no longer than 12cm's. With the orange I cut it up in thin strips as well, but very short ones, about 2cm's long. The red paper is cut into rings, about 4cm's across. Then you have the yellow paper that can be cut up like the orange. With these cut up bits of papers I mix them up in a large bowl with home-made dressing and you have coleslaw!

Perfect for the summer dinner's in New Zealand.

Hiya all :^} I just love your suggestions, they're brilliant!!

Hanne_the_half_a_bee, a paper mache Michael?? Love it!! :^} Would you do a scale model or lifesize?? Though I suppose that would depend on how many pressies you got??? :^} :^}

Phyll!!!!!!!!! LOLOLOLOLOOOLOLOLOLOLOLOL :^}

It's that old thespian side coming out in you again isn't it. There's nothing like the old rhyming couplet to raise the tone.............. :^} x

As for the type of paper in the recipe, I'd personally go for the patterned paper type every time as the foil type doesn't tend to soak up the cooking jucies and this can adversely affect the texture of the cooked stuffing. Oh, and it can be a bit sharp whilst chewing it.........

Hiya Lyn :^} xxxx

I'll leave that to your discretion............. :^}

Cool Sophie! :^} That's what I like to see...waste not want not. :^}

Another usage idea......

Take a handful or wrappings and chop them, place them in a little plastic bag, thoroughly spray them with any aerosol deoderant/body fragrance you have handy, tie up the bag with an artfully arranged bit of string and give it as Pot-Pourri.

Helen, Wonder Wingtip Woman!!! :^} x

That's so kind of you to think of the garbage man...... brings a tear to my eye............... :^}}} xxx :^}

Di!! :^}x

Coleslaw, Magic!! :^} The perfect accompaniment to the cold leftover chicken and stuffing on a summers day. I agree with you wholeheartedly.
The meal more than satisfys the Department of Health's guidelines to healthy eating as it contains plenty of protein, carbs, is low fat and has LOTS of fibre. :^}

It's great to be back among ya. xxx
