Peru by little-peep on 8 December 2002 1:46pm
I have already asked this in the blathering on section, but after i posted it, it seemed more better to post it here.....
you see, i want to study the Incas, peru etc and do either archalogy (is that spelt right?) or antheopology after uni.
So; has anyone been there (peru, Machu Pichu etc) for a gap year? holiday? Know how big the place is? know where i can find info? if there are digs/ excavations there?
any help/ thoughts are greatly accepted!
luv little-peep xx

If you are interested in Archaeology and digs in Peru I would suggest that you look in the archaeology magazine. (I'm from Canada. I don't know if this magazine is sold in Europe, too) In this magazine there are a lot of ads from travel agencies, hotels etc. specialising in Archaeology. There are also digs listed.
Their website is:

It is an excellent publication.

Greetings from Canada.

Thank you! I will definitly look around that site soon- the fact it has digs is very useful. Last time i found a dig i was interseted in, i was too young to go. Now, i hope i can really get stuck in!

Apart from Machu picu, theres the city of Cuzco, which has been rebuilt by the Spainish, whats interesting is that many of the buildings are made from the stones of ancient Inca sites which are in walking distance from the town. The town is apparently in the shape of a puma, and the eye is a Inca settlement called Sacsaywaman (spelt wrong!). A great base to travel from, start there!
