Hello fellow Palin fans,

I am new to the site but have been a fan of Michael's travel series for years. My husband and I are indebted to him, as his series opened our eyes to the wonder of world travel. We live in Massachusetts USA, and had mainly vacationed in North America. After watching "Full Circle" for the umpteenth time, we were inspired to visit Peru. It was a life-altering trip that we embarked upon this past May. We fell thoroughly in love with the people and culture of Peru, and we can't wait to go back. Travel has definitely become an addiction for us, and one that we are more than happy to indulge. We have some stories and pictures from our trips at our web site: www.craigandstephsvacations.com

My husband got me a UK copy of Sahara for Christmas, and I can't wait to start reading it. I was hoping to catch Michael on a book signing tour, but it seems that we will be vacationing in New Zealand when he next comes to the US (April?) and we will be in the US when he is in New Zealand. A bit of a disappointment, but what better excuse not to be able to meet him than being on a tramping expedition on the South Island?

Anyway, just wanted to say hi and I think this web site is absolutely wonderful!

Happy travels,

Welcome from a fellow USer and Palin fan!

As always, it's neat to hear how people get inspired by Michael! I hope to do some traveling like you some day! (When I'm out of college and actually have money...ha).

Hope you enjoy it here! Any other out-of-country trips planned outside of Peru?

Hi Stephanie and Craig, nice to meet you :-}}}

I've just had a look round your site. It looks amazing and so easy to read, I felt like I was just three steps behind you and eating at the next table! :-}

Reading through your London trip (I'm English but have lived in Christchurch NZ for the last 20yrs and have never actually been to London!!??!! Heathrow was the closest I got!) I came across your account of the Rick Wakeman concert and meeting. My husband (a musician and a big Rick Wakeman fan) jumped over to the computer to have a look at your pic... He sends his best to you and thought the pic looked great. :-} And is insanely jealous (but in a kind supportive way!! :-} )

Great to hear you're coming to the South Island, I totally agree with Matt you won't be dissappointed. I also offer any help or a friendly face if you're passing through Christchurch. :-}}} Any Palinite Is a friend :-}}}

Best wishes

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone! What a nice community this is!

Matt and Ellen, thanks for the offer of NZ advice! We have a rough itinerary at this point. We will be staying in Christchurch for a couple of days, then renting a camper van and winding our way north and then down the west coast. We will return the van in Queenstown and join a guided 10 day tramping trip. We are really looking forward to it. We just saw The Two Towers, and the footage of NZ in those Lord of the Rings movies never ceases to impress us.
Can't wait to see it firsthand!

Ellen and Matt, feel free to email me off-list (my email address is listed on my web site). Not sure where you're located, Matt, but Ellen, if you're in Christchurch, we'll definitely be in your area for a couple days. We'd love to take you and your husband out for drinks or a bite to eat. That's so funny that your husband was interested in our Wakeman pictures. :^) Small world indeed!

Mary, I too hope you get to do some traveling after college. I am a computer programmer by profession, and although I like what I do, I find that I spend lots of time just gazing at the maps that decorate my cubicle walls. I pretty much consider work a means to an end - how I can finance my next trip. After NZ it will probably be Belize and Guatemala; after seeing Inca ruins, we're excited to see those of the Maya.

Little-peep, thanks for the kind words about my Peru site. Yeah, the bones were a bit creepy. Very surreal!

Again, thanks for the warm welcome, and I'll be talking to you all again soon! :^)
