Trans Siberian Express by paulmonk on 8 January 2003 12:41pm

Hi all,

I'm planning on travelling the Trans Siberian Express route sometime next year. Anyone here travelled it before?
Any tips or advice that you could give me?

Many thanks.

Paul

I did this trip last year, it is one of the great trips, you can go through Mongolia or go all the way to Vladivostok. I didn't realise how much fun railway travel can be, and it is fairly safe, safe that is until the Mongolians are around! 4 days to Irkutz, Siberia and the fabulous Lake Baikal.

The Russia Experience organise great trips (if you are in the UK) and give you a buddy in each town, essential, a lack of English will be found.

I think my posting 5 to 12 of my trip may be useful for you on www.throughrussiawithlove.co.uk

Good luck, beware of Dagestanis giving you cognac, you may need the Russian military to rescue you (see posting seven !!)

orginal-st-petersburg.co.uk also arrange trans siberian trips. I traveled as far as Lake Bikal and really enjoyed it. Well worth the journey and lots of fun. As I travel to Russia as many times as I can, I've grown used to the little cultral quirks that can trip many western Europeans and North Americans up, so it's well worth meeting some Russian friends to prevent cultral misunderstandings. Overall a trip I'm sure Michael could do!
