Memories Of Egypt by markvent on 18 January 2003 9:36pm

Hi,

I've just re-watched 80 Days & Pole-To-Pole and both stirred up memories of Cairo ...

My Father went out there to work for an oil exploration company and so we were taken along too ..

The cars that don't run on petrol but on pressure on the horn. The rabid dogs that prowled the streets every night (and the accompanying gunshots). The Muzaheddin's waking you at sunrise (our flat was between two mosques!). Having said that nothing beats getting up and drawing the curtains, and seeing the pyramids ... a fantastic country and warm, kind, completely barmy people ;)

I remember very little arabic these days but that which I rememer I am told I say with a Cairo accent .. :)

Mark.
