the sexy 'older' man by luminara on 19 December 2004 4:13am

what is it about older guys that makes them so attractive?

michael palin, alan rickman, jeremy irons, to name but a few of the 'older' men that i would choose over brad pitt etc any day...but why?

How about 84?

I don't know, it has something to do with Psychology, I remember doing it at some point, though I don't remember much about it, but apparently us girlies generally prefer older men, and vice versa for men I think too... I'm not sure now, I shall have to go look it up and edit this comment when I have! *Hunts around piles of paper in a meaningful fashion*

Hm. Well, I've heard Marquis de Sade pulled it off, so why not.

Is it perhaps something to do with the fact that girls look for father figures? It's kind of creepy, actually. I mean, you might think they're nice, but would you actually go out with this significantly older guy? It would feel wrong, wouldn't it. I mean, think about actually doing it, the conversations you'd lead. Creepy.

Actually my wife is 20 years younger than me and we both get along perfectly. If you find the right rapport with the right person then age is not an issue (and I'm not really 84!)

Hmm, well I meant REALLY older, e.g. some of the people who write and say they think Michael's hot are 18-19, while he's 60-ish, which is quite a difference. But, of course, you can think I guy's sexy without wanting to start a relationship with him. 20 years isn't that much compared to, say, 40-50;) It's all about your "maturity level", I suppose, which does change a lot when you're younger.
It's just that often young girls fall for a guy's "authority" or something like that, for example when you get a crush on your teacher, it's probably more the fact that he's an authority figure and not him as a person you fall for.
I had a crush on my 36-year old driving instructor (I'm 18), he was quite charming, but in fact disagreed with me about everything I thought was important... So, sadly I didn't get a discount driver's license;) Although, on a completely different topic, the other driving instructor where I live supposedly gives you a 40% discount if you go off to some parking lot with him... Imagine prostituting yourself for a driver's license;)
