Palinite Convention Part 2 by RichB on 6 January 2005 3:09am

AAAAARRGH NO !!!!

It's OK, I'm not going to start that up again, it caused enough trouble before. For anyone not in the know I'll explain (briefly).

Sadly, I missed Michael on the Sheffield leg of his Sahara booksigning tour, primarily because I didn't know about it. I discovered this great site the very next day and of course there was the schedule. Anyway, I posted a thread asking if Michael would consent to an extra booksigning for the Palins Travels posters. It was sadly misconstrued and Michael was given the impression we wanted him to turn up in some great hall so thousands of us could kiss his feet and ask him to sign our underpants etc. etc. (Lyn, I know this is really what you wanted, but anyway).

Of course Michael said he didn't want to become some cult figure who had to roll out once a year to be worshipped by screaming fans (again Lyn...) Quite how an extra booksigning turned into something resembling Beatlemania still confuses me but I digress. After posting my real intentions and having a lovely conversation with Alison Davies at Palin HQ the whole thing died down and another booksigning was indeed arranged at Stanfords in Manchester, where Michael most generously agreed to sign books other than Sahara. Again sadly I missed out as it was midweek and I was working.

Of course we've just had Himalaya and bitterly disappointed as I was to find Michael not travelling to his birth town of Sheffield this time I have missed him again. I must add that Michael did do a charity talk in Sheffield after Himalaya but as is his popularity the tickets sold out in about 3 seconds.

So my question is, will Michael consent to another extra booksigning or two in the near future, to accommodate those of us who couldn't make it at the back end of last year. I'll leave it in Webmaster's capable hands and feel free to add your support fellow Palinites. I'll try to speak to Alison again soon if I get time.

Thanks
Rich

Last i heard. Michael was currently living in retreat in a small cabin of an undisclosed location of the world, and has taken a vow of total silence for a year with only a Juniper bush and it's berries to provide for him. His last words were apparently, "I'm going out for a while.....i may be some time". I dont think he'll be signing anymore books anytime soon from that statement. But if you go hiking into the far off hills somewhere, you may stumble upon him. Just dont step on his foot.

Poor Michael must be so worn out! I have to admit I've never met him either and it would be great if he came to a book store near me, but look at how much he's done already!

RichB, sorry you missed out, that must be so annoying!

Hmmm, Godfather, last I heard he was "chumming" and was heard to exclaim,
"we're gonna need a bigger boat."

Last i heard,he was on the boat with Basil and Roger, singing "Show me the way to go home....i'm tired and i wanna go to bed..i had a little drink about an hour ago and it's gone right to my head" (suddenly interrupted by the sound of the boats wooden beam being rammed).

were they comparing scars? Mary Ellen Moffatt broken heart scars?

gawd, sorry Rich when GF and I get going there is no end to the Jaws references.
But anyway, I live in the US and it would be swell if he came through my neck o' the woods some day to do a signing. But I can understand if he wants a rest and a chance to catch up on his laundry.
That is a bummer you missed him..how frustrating!
