Re: WARNING - CHATZY IS DANGEROUS TO YOUR COMPUTERS by JF on 22 May 2005 10:32pm

If you have been sent a virus then there are a load of different ways that the virus could have arrived at your computer and disguised itself - or have you never heard of those that behave like that?

I have been using chatzy for a couple of years now. My rugby club uses it for weekly chat sessions, and the participants number amongst them both people who log on at large city institutions and network managers. Neither would be allowed to use chatzy if it stuffed up a large institutional network. I know of nobody who has been caught by any sort of nasty.

I think you have it wrong. On the other hand, it you would be so kind as to actually publish some proof instead of wild speculation, I will investigate it.

hi there... i have been using chatzy for a while and my computer was crushed by a virus so i had to get a new one (couldn't find back up disks) whether this was anything from the chatzy i dont know but i have got a security suite on my comp and when im using chatzy i dont get any major warnings come up..as long as you have the correct security programmes an keep it updated there should be no problem.

don't blame chatzy. Blame any Bill Gates products. they don't call it "Windows" for nuthin'.

Okay, that was smarmy humor from a Mac user. But anyway, you should use common sense when using any computer. Brush up on your security know how.
I agree with JF, imorse.. (or whatever the hell your name is this week.) Sounds like wild speculation re: chatzy. Did you give away your e-mail addy on a public forum? Hmmm? Did you open a juicy, tantalizing attachment from someone you don't know?

So long as you've taken some simple measures to protect yourself, you should be alright. I can't imagine a site like chatzy trying to screw you over.

An IRC channel would be pretty cool. Don't know how computer (il)literate Palinites are but it'd be good.

I use Linux mainly (slackware + suse), but windows ain't all that bad. Well...
It leaves something to be desired, but there's plenty of free protection out there.
