Stuffed travelling friends by juniorff on 23 March 2006 2:24am

Just a random one, does any one have a anything they ALWAYS take travelling with them?

I have a random Moose, given to me by a good friend, and he's getting to see a lot! He's done 4 continents so hopefully he'll finish the rest off!

Am I alone with this?!

I'm a bit superstitious, so I always carry my good luck charm in my wallet. It's a coin struck from brass taken from the USS Constellation. She was the last all-sail US Navy warship and has been turned into a museum in Baltimore.

I bought the coin on one of my visits to the Constellation when I was stationed at Ft Meade in Maryland, about halfway between Baltimore and Washington DC. The coins are supposed to be lifetime free passes onboard ... or at least they were at the time.

Anyway ... I've always kept the coin in my wallet, and over time, I got superstitious about it. I would NEVER travel without it.

Aw, pandab, that's sweet. I was born in Baltimore and now live 10 miles west of the city, in Ellicott City. Do you know it? Being at Ft. Meade, you probably do! Isn't it a small world... When I was a child, I, too, went aboard and bought the coin. Not sure I still have it. I kept everything and I think I know where it is. You're right, it was a lifelong pass to visit the ship. Did you know they recently did more restoration work on it? It's looking good!!!!!! I see it often when in the city for baseball games or shopping at the Inner Harbor or at some hot spots for night life.

Where do you live now, I forgot?

I live in Roanoke, Virginia, Peri. It's a smallish city in the southwest part of the state.

Arty, I love your puppets! They sound cute!

My favorite-est stuffed animal is a dog named Prince. I don't travel with him because he is literally as old as I am, which makes him 43. He was a gift from my grandmother for my first Christmas. He's a bit worn now, and he wouldn't stand up to a child playing with him these days, but I keep him with me.

When I moved into my present home several years ago, I had him wrapped in a plastic bag to protect him. My dad picked him up and made a face, wanting to know if I was going to toss away the "ragged thing". Ragged thing!!! Hmph!!! Prince stays me!!!

I thought i was slightly mad taking me Moose with me!? However I do get some very funny looks because I have to document his travels with photographs, last month he was posing next to one of the Lions at Trafalgar Square looking up at Nelson on his Column, people thought I was mad!

Aaah, Roanoke. I stayed there once when I visited the grist mill on the Skyline Drive and then backtracked to Babcock St. Park in W.Va. It was at the height of autumn and the best show of colors I've seen to this day. (And we get great color here too.)

arty_farty, you have to get something small enough to fit in your pocket, but is also quite cool, and looks a bit starnge in the old photo's, if i didn't have the moose, i'd go for a small garden gnome!
